Darren PhillipsMany changes are under way for New Mexico State University Aggies through the Alumni Association.
Those logging on to the NMSU alumni Web site after January will see a much more interactive site due to the scheduled launch of I-Modules. The new online community will allow alumni to be much more engaged with the university on a daily basis. It will include an online directory, news, events, a career center, message boards and online chats.
Alumni will be able to stay connected to clubs and organizations they belonged to when they were students or that they have joined as alumni. Chapters will have their own pages to highlight events and members can post updated information including photos. Alumni also can register to attend events, pay membership dues or shop for Aggie apparel through the new site.
Those Alumni Association members who renew their membership this summer or join for the first time will see some additional benefits in 2007-08.
NMSU Alumni Association members will receive discounted car, home and life insurance from Liberty Mutual.
Through Access, a company that gathers multiple businesses for nationwide discounts, alumni will receive discounts at thousands of businesses such as Curves, Mens Wearhouse, Ann Taylor Loft, La Quinta Inn, Busch Gardens, KB Toys, Bombay, Boston Market, Target.com, Cold Stone, and various movie theaters, just to name a few.
Access is continually adding new businesses and welcomes input on what should be added. Aggie business owners can add their businesses for free.
Many wonderful events were held during our Homecoming 2006 celebration, Countdown to Xcellence.
The classes of 46, 56 and 66 had a great time at their combined class reunion dinner and several dedication ceremonies brought alumni back to campus.
Many alumni were glad to see the improved Pete, which resulted from students, alumni and athletics working together to respond to concerns about previous changes to the mascot. The new Pete has a posse that rides with him and, at the Homecoming football game, Petes horse Keystone was introduced to the crowd. See pages 6-7 of this issue for snapshots of Homecoming 2006.
All NMSU Alumni are encouraged to keep in touch with the Alumni Association. Contact the association directly at alumni@nmsu.edu or (505) 646-3616. Also, dont forget to submit personal and alumni chapter news to Panorama at panorama@nmsu.edu.
