Research Discovery Award

Several of NMSU’s outstanding professors have received the Research Discovery Award for their achievements in research and discovery through leadership and innovation. Catch them being recognized at NM State home basketball games!

NMSU Executive Vice President and Provost Dan Howard, left, presents Nancy McMillan, Regents Professor and department head of geological sciences, with the Research Discovery Award. McMillan currently has a National Science Foundation funded research project, which will examine the mineral tourmaline in ancient sediment from Antarctica to determine its origins.

NMSU Provost Dan Howard, left, presents Rolston St. Hilaire with the Research Discovery Award. St. Hilaire serves as both department head for Plant and Environmental Sciences as well as interim department head for Extension Plant Sciences in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. 

NMSU Chancellor Garrey Carruthers, left, presents Michael Johnson, professor of chemistry and biochemstry, with the Research Discovery Award. Johnson has two current research programs underway regarding the reactivity of molecules in confined media and the exploration of the fundamental and environmental chemistry of the ferrate ion.
