NMSU’s fall 2021 convocation marked the start of a new academic year – and a new tradition to align faculty awards with NMSU LEADS 2025. Award recipients who attended the ceremony were Martha Desmond (from left), Regents professor of fishery and wildlife sciences, Donald C. Roush Award for Teaching Excellence honoree; Steven Sandoval, assistant professor of electrical engineering, Christmore Award for Teaching Excellence honoree; Mary Ballyk, professor of mathematical sciences, Robert L. Westhafer Award honoree, which recognizes work enhancing student success and social mobility – the first goal in LEADS 2025; Avis James, college associate professor of biology, Donald C. Roush Award for Teaching Excellence honoree; and Anne Semrau, assistant professor of biology at NMSU Grants, Donald C. Roush Award for Teaching Excellence honoree.
Students from Aggies Without Limits accepted the first-ever Extension, Outreach and Community Engagement Award, which recognizes work amplifying extension and outreach – the third goal in LEADS 2025. AWL brings together students, faculty and community members to assist with the development of local and international communities.
