"You’re going to Hollywood!” were words Dzaki Sukarno only dreamed of hearing since he started his musical journey. In March 2021, his dreams came true. Sukarno auditioned for American Idol, where he earned his golden ticket to Hollywood. The Las Cruces native sang Kane Brown’s “Good as You.” Sukarno is an agricultural business major and a member of NMSU’s Air Force ROTC.
Sukarno advanced to the next few rounds of the competition before heading home.
"Although I did not move forward, everyone keeps asking me, what’s next?” Sukarno says. “What’s next is making sure that I keep pushing my dreams of music."
As he takes those next steps, Sukarno is grateful his fellow Aggies are cheering him on.
"The NMSU community has been super supportive on my journey through American Idol,” Sukarno says. “Without the support of the community, I would not be in the position I am today."
