Student wins Miss New Mexico, will compete in Miss America

Lianna Hartshorn became the first Jewish Miss New Mexico when she won the crown in June 2023. She is studying biology and chemistry at NMSU and hopes to become a pediatric surgeon.

“My goal for Miss America is to make history and become the first woman from the Land of Enchantment to win the Miss America title,” she says.

Hartshorn aims to use her platform to empower children and women and is now preparing to expand that goal nationwide. Along with the Miss New Mexico title, community service initiatives, school and being a Conroy Honors Scholar, Hartshorn will compete in the Miss America competition in January 2024. Her inspiration stems from her parents, faith, love for children and education.

“I want to see New Mexico students succeed,” Hartshorn says. “I want to give hope to women regardless of their culture, ethnicity or religion, so that they are able to be successful in organizations like the Miss New Mexico or Miss America organizations.”
