Students win national marketing competition

NMSU won first place in the 2023 National Agri-Marketing Association Student Marketing Competition, beating more than two dozen schools from the United States and Canada. A team of 19 students from NMSU’s NAMA chapter participated in the 2023 competition.

It was the first time NMSU won the competition in more than 12 years.

For the 2023 competition, students in NMSU’s NAMA chapter spent the 2022-2023 academic year developing a detailed marketing plan for an agricultural product of their choice, using skills in agribusiness marketing, sales, public relations and advertising. Their plan centered on a freeze-dried salsa product developed by High Desert Chile Co., a Las Cruces company.

The students then traveled to St. Louis, Missouri, in April 2023 to present their plan at the NAMA convention. NMSU was among the top six universities that made it to the finals and, ultimately, prevailed over Purdue University, University of Guelph, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Iowa State University.
