NMSU’s Model United Nations team was named Outstanding Delegation at the International Model UN Conference in Kobe, Japan, in November 2022. Outstanding Delegation is the highest recognition awarded. Less than 5% of teams participating achieve this designation.
“It was only our second international conference and the first time that we had represented NMSU in Japan,” says Neil Harvey, government professor and department head, who accompanied the group.
The visit to Japan also included cultural tours.
“One of the most surprising things that I learned during this conference in Japan was how detrimental and impactful the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were,” says Angel Amabisco, government major and a member of the team.
Thirty-four groups from universities in 13 countries competed in the event. The international recognition continues NMSU Model UN’s strong track record of achievement at competitions since the 1990s.
