In summer 2024, the NMSU Foundation welcomed Patrick E. Stewart as the new vice president of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, and if you ask him, he’ll tell you he has the best job in New Mexico: bringing Aggies together.
With Stewart at the helm, alumni are in for some exciting changes. He and his team are gearing up to improve alumni engagement opportunities across the United States and create a broad and deep alumni network ready to do their part to help NMSU students achieve their dreams.
“We already know that when Aggies get together, a good time will be had by all,” Stewart says, “but as my alumni relations team learns about the global and professional issues of interest to our graduates, we’ll be able to better tailor our offerings for those engaged in our alumni network.”
Guided by the Alumni Association Board, Stewart’s team is busy creating innovative programs to help Aggies connect with NMSU and each other in a variety of ways. These include faculty-led trips, networking socials for recent graduates and seasoned alumni, grassroots fundraising through 1888 Minutes of Giving, community service opportunities, and specialized events that focus on food, wine, art, literature, trending technologies, scientific discoveries, sports, music or wellness.
It will take some time to roll out the new initiatives, but plans are well underway and the energy behind them is strong.
“Since I’ve come on board, I’ve connected with many alumni eager to keep the Aggie spirit alive across Aggie Nation,” Stewart says. “Their insight, along with the ongoing feedback we routinely get from other Aggies, will enable the Alumni Association to continually grow and improve.”

Aggie alumni and friends gathered at the first home football tailgate in August 2024. The tailgate was hosted by the NMSU Alumni Association, which is leading a number of new programs that allow Aggies to connect with the university and with each other.
