Ortega named AVP for diversity initiatives

Mariana Ortega was named assistant vice president for diversity initiatives and began her new role in July 2024. Ortega previously worked at NMSU for six years, where she served as a residence director, college instructor, new student registration specialist and orientation program specialist. 

Ortega oversees and manages the Equity, Inclusion and Diversity division’s student-facing programs and services, including the American Indian Program, Asian Pacific Islander Program, Black Programs, Latin American Programs and LGBT+ Programs. She will also fully support systemwide EID initiatives and work toward the university’s LEADS 2025 Strategic Goal 6, which aims to advance EID across the NMSU system as a foundation for institutional excellence.
