NMSU is among the top tier of institutions for economic mobility for its students. On the Economic Mobility Index, NMSU ranks No. 79 out of more than 1,300 institutions. The ranking places value on how well institutions serve their low-income students in addition to the proportion of low- and moderate-income students a school enrolls.
As of fall 2023, the Las Cruces campus had 14,779 students with 82% pursuing undergraduate degrees and 77.2% attending full-time. Additionally, the current student population is 58.5% female and 57.6% Hispanic.
NMSU’s student chapter of the Association for Information Systems was named AIS New Chapter of the Year for the 2022 to 2023 academic year.
The chapter, established in 2021 under the leadership of College of Business faculty member Rajaa Shindi ’06 ’14, also won the AIS Student Chapter Outstanding Community Service Award.
“I want to congratulate my students for winning these prestigious awards,” Shindi says. “To be recognized on a national level is a testament to their dedication to one another and the NMSU community.”
Shindi and her students traveled to Logan, Utah, in March 2024 to receive the awards during the AIS Student Chapter Leadership Conference at Utah State University.
NMSU earned multiple spots on the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. This includes overall rankings, tied for 296, top public schools, tied for 159, and top performers in social mobility, tied for 245.
In best undergraduate programs, NMSU earned spots in engineering, tied for 135, nursing, tied for 154, computer science, tied for 167, economics, tied for 201, psychology, tied for 203, and business, tied for 244.
NMSU was featured in the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics issue, an annual highlight in the Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine.
The magazine’s yearly feature tracks the national advancement of Hispanics in higher education and spotlights institutions that are dedicated to meeting the educational needs of their communities.
NMSU was ranked 49th in bachelor’s degrees granted, 73rd in master’s degrees granted and 75th in total enrollment for four-year schools. The rankings are based on 2021 to 2022 information.
