Sanchez named football head coach

In December 2023, Tony Sanchez ’98 ’03 was named the 36th head coach of the Aggie football team. He’s the first NMSU graduate to lead the program since Jim Bradley ’54 in 1973 to 1977.

Sanchez, a former Aggie wideout, was the wide receivers coach during the back-to-back bowl appearances in 2022 and 2023. Previously, Sanchez was head coach at the University of Nevada Las Vegas from 2015-19. As a high school coach, Sanchez was named the USA Today High School Football Coach of the Year in 2014 while at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Through his two-year tenure in an Aggie uniform, Sanchez racked up 54 receptions for 741 yards and five touchdowns. Upon the conclusion of his collegiate career in the 1995 season, Sanchez served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Aggies in 1996.
