A team of NMSU students won the Platinum Dairy Innovator Award and a $10,000 grand prize at the Dairy Management Inc. New Product Contest at the American Dairy Science Association annual meeting in June 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The five-member team won for its product Nuestro Corazón, on-the-go, high-protein, gluten-free snack packs featuring Latino-inspired flavors. The team consisted of Andrea Soler and Joy Agbawodike, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences graduate students; Alejandro Schutte, ACES undergraduate; and Ashley Medina Cardona and Jazmine Arreola, College of Engineering undergraduates.
Nuestro Corazón featured cheddar and mozzarella crackers and Greek yogurt-based dips with chimichurri, harissa and dulce de leche flavors. The heart-healthy snacks, composed of more than 80% dairy ingredients, were designed to be both nutritious and culturally relevant, with an emphasis on dairy innovation and marketability.
